With temps like these, if your air goes out it can get hot fast.

"Some of these houses, the humidity levels are very, very high and they're 95-98 degrees. They're very warm, very uncomfortable," said senior technician, Frank Christensen.

Those are conditions Carol Boyd and her dogs don't want to deal with.

"That's why I called right away. I thought it's too hot to be without an air conditioner," Boyd said.

So, she called Burton A/C Heating Plumbing and More.

"I have a very old air conditioner but it's working. But then last night about 11 o'clock I started hearing a funny noise coming from downstairs," Boyd said.

Christensen says, she had a common problem.

"This buildup on this coil is one of the primary factors of a lot of the breakdowns when it gets really warm," Christensen said.

Christensen says just like a car's radiator. It will overheat, especially in weather like this.

"Just like the human body, the stress load for something really hot outside if you're going to go ride your bike or jog or run. Definitely a higher stress load," Christensen said.

He says their service calls have doubled since the start of this heat wave.

Christensen says it's important to keep your AC unit cleaned off and there's something easy you can do.

"First we try to tell people to pay attention to your air filter year-round. If you have a one-inch air filter we recommend you change that every other month. You need six air filters the year," Christensen said.

Regular maintenance, to keep you cool when you need it the most.
