Somerset-based Jasun Envirocare said it had seen a rise in demand for its air filtration system since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic

An air filter manufacturer based in Somerset is set to boost its production capacity as it seeks to protect customers from global supply chain issues.

Jasun Envirocare, employs a workforce of around 200 people across its four sites in Bridgwater, Hampshire, France and Spain, though it has been reshoring more of its operations.

The firm said it had seen a 15% increase in demand for its air filtration system since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly from retail, hospitality or office-based firms looking to increase hygiene and cut operating costs.

The rise has led the 50-year-old business to invest in new automated equipment, with support from Lloyds Bank.

Jasun Envirocare said many of its businesses who previously relied on overseas production cycles were benefiting from its shortened supply chain.

Chairman Graham Bentley said: “Seeking methods to streamline production and increase operational efficiency will help to shield our customers from further supply chain issues that could potentially impact their strategic ambitions.

“We’ve always maintained our production facility in the UK and resisted the temptation to offshore our operations over the last 50 years.”

Will Kite, relationship director at Lloyds Bank, said global supply chain bottlenecks and rising inflation had “shaken” the manufacturing industry, with the bank’s latest Business Barometer survey in July reporting a 12-point dip in confidence across the sector to 20%.

He added that businesses “must be proactive” to help protect themselves from current inflationary challenges.

Mr Kite said: “Jasun Envirocare saw the landscape changes as an opportunity to return to the UK from China to implement growth strategies that have allowed them to stay resilient in extreme headwinds.

“It’s been brilliant to work with Jasun Envirocare and help them increase their specialist production capacity and provide a more extensive service to their customers. We hope other manufacturers take inspiration from their successes, so we can bring more home grown business back to Britain.”
