The seventh-gen Ford Mustang is arriving on September 14, and it will continue the legacy of American muscle cars with an authentic V8.

The iconic Ford Mustang is all set to enter the seventh generation. The Boss-man at the Blue Oval, Jim Farley, confirmed on Twitter that the all-new seventh-generation Mustang is making its first global presence on September 14, 2022, at the Detroit Auto Show. In the times when the fate of both arch-rivals, the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, has been sealed in the interest of electric mobility, Ford plans to go strong with the Mustang.

And thankfully, Ford intends to retain the original essence of the muscle car in so many ways. Ford will continue to offer those traditional elements in the Mustang, which are dying a slow death for a cleaner, more convenient future. Here are all those elements raising the bars of anticipation for the new Ford Mustang.

The world is moving towards an era with cleaner emission norms, and the first thing carmakers are doing to go with the flow is downsizing the powertrains. We have seen supercars losing their iconic hearts – Lamborghini has parted ways with the naturally-aspirated V12, Ferrari is switching to V6s, and Germans are no more into V10s and V12s.

Even Ford switched to a twin-turbocharged V6 for the new F-150 Raptor. Will this new phenomenon of downsizing break the hearts of Mustang loyalists? The answer is no. Ford has made them happy by announcing that it will retain the current mainstream engines for the seventh-gen Mustang.

In addition to the entry-level 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine, it will continue with the iconic 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine in the pure naturally-aspirated form. However, the V8 in the new Mustang might be slightly lower on power to meet the latest stricter emission norms.

An automatic gearbox in a car is much more convenient and even responsive at times. However, there is no other joyous feel comparable to holding control of the power delivery with a manual transmission stick in your hand. The new-generation sports cars and all the electric cars are shying away from manual transmissions, but not the Ford Mustang.

In his tweet confirming the arrival of the Ford Mustang on September 14th, Jim Farley concluded the tweet with the hashtag #SaveTheManual. This parting shot by Farley indicates that the new seventh-gen Ford Mustang will continue to come with the slick 6-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, the optional 10-speed torque converter will also continue to be there in the new Mustang.

Ford might be retaining the engine and transmission options for the new Mustang, though all is not old under the skin. Codenamed S650, the seventh-gen Mustang will get a new platform, which is said to derive from the CD6 platform underpinning the popular Ford Explorer.

Considering that this new platform is compatible with hybrid powertrains in Explorer, there are chances that Ford might introduce a hybrid setup as an option with this new platform for the Mustang. Like before, the Ford Mustang will continue to be a rear-wheel-drive pony car with this new platform. However, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine might get an assistance of a hybrid setup powering the front wheels.

If this happens, we might see the first-ever all-wheel-drive hybrid Ford Mustang. However, this new platform is unsuitable for underpinning a full-electric vehicle like the Mustang Mach-E. It means that while we might get to see a hybrid Mustang, an all-electric Mustang coupe is still a distant dream. Recent updates show that the 2024 Mustang not got even feature all-wheel-drive or the hybrid powertrain at all as Ford has reportedly dropped those plans entirely.

We have already seen the seventh-gen Ford Mustang undergoing trial runs in heavily-camouflaged prototype forms. While the heavy-looking covers have not revealed the design of the new model, there are some details that we have figured out. First and foremost, the overall stance and silhouette of the current sixth-gen model are likely to remain the same for the new seventh-gen model.

The prototype on trial runs shows that the new model continues with the signature long hood and a compact-looking tail. Also, there’s a new spy picture floating on the internet that reveals the sharper-looking front fascia of the new Mustang. This new fascia comprises more angular-looking headlamps, which look like they will feature a triple projector setup.

Even the front grille gets more angular edges with honeycomb inserts that continue in the lower air dam. In all likelihood, the tail lamps and rear bumper will also get all-new designs. Another spy picture of the upcoming Ford Mustang reveals the possible layout of the interior.

Expect to see a familiar-looking dashboard with a full-TFT instrument console and a new-generation touchscreen infotainment system. The center console looks revised with rectangular AC vents below the infotainment system, with conventional buttons for the climate control below them. However, all will be revealed when the 2024 Ford Mustang is officially revealed.
